The Colorado Field Ornithologists Annual Birding Convention is the birding event of the year for Colorado birders! Meeting sites are selected throughout the state. Members can see new birds and habitats each year with field trips led by local experts. Events include presentations of research papers, workshops, and an evening banquet with a special guest speaker. This is a great opportunity to meet new friends, renew old friendships, and learn about birds in an informal atmosphere.

The 2012 CFO Annual Convention will be held in Trinidad, Las Animas County, Colorado on May 17-20, 2012.
Las Animas County presents the birder with a fascinating mix of East and West, plains and mountains, deserts and forests. Along the Purgatoire River, Eastern Phoebes are downright common and Black Phoebes are distinctly possible. In cottonwood groves in May, a singing grosbeak may prove to be either a Rose–breasted or a Black–headed—or perhaps a hybrid! In the canyon lands of Las Animas County, you might hear Gray Vireos and Cassin's Sparrows singing at the same time; and then you might spy anything from a Long–billed Curlew to a Greater Roadrunner.
Las Animas County also offers the possibility for rare "southerners." Hepatic Tanagers and Grace's Warblers are scarce breeders, and we shouldn't exclude the possibility of something truly exciting from New Mexico: maybe a Bendire's Thrasher or an Acorn Woodpecker. Or maybe Colorado will get its overdue first Cactus Wren or Verdin at the 2012 convention. Okay, probably not, but Las Animas County offers the possibility of a spectacular rarity. Come join us this year, and join in on the excitement and discovery as we visit exciting new sites — like Vermejo Park Ranch and Mesa De Maya — and revisit tried and true locations! » read more
